CVS/pharmacy Awards Easter Seals Bay Area with $45,000 in Two Grants Designed to Support Youth with Disabilities and Strengthen Local Autism Services

(Oakland, November 23, 2009) -- Bringing their national relationship with Easter Seals to the Bay Area and realizing the impact Easter Seals Bay Area is making in the lives of children with disabilities and their families -- in particular children with autism spectrum disorder -- CVS/pharmacy awarded a $25,000 grant to fund Easter Seals’ Kaleidoscope After-School Program. Kaleidoscope offers a community-based, comprehensive and creative approach to recreation, education and socialization services for youth ages five to 22 years with developmental disabilities. For more than 25 years, the Dublin-based program has been teaching vital independent living skills to Tri-Valley youth with disabilities. The grant is one of several which CVS/pharmacy made at Easter Seals affiliates in California recently to help children with disabilities to learn, play, and succeed.

“While CVS Pharmacy is relatively new to the San Francisco Bay Area, they’ve had an important and positive effect on the lives of children and their families affected by disabilities,” said Dr. Michael Pelfini, president and CEO, Easter Seals Bay Area. “We’re proud that this long-standing, national partnership now enjoys local meaning and impact.  The grants are helping Easter Seals Bay Area continue to lead the way in providing exceptional services to those with disabilities who live, learn, play and work in the Bay Area.”

“CVS Caremark is committed to helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life,” said Rick Ford,  area vice president, Northern California, CVS/pharmacy. “Through this grant, we are proud to be able to help make an impact on the lives of children in the Bay Area.”

Easter Seals Bay Area received a Grant Award of $20,000 in May to strengthen local autism services through Professional Development in Applied Behavior Analysis. The grant, made possible through the CVS Caremark All Kids Can Program™, is in response to families’ need for greater access to autism services.
